Most of the population today is becoming vegetarian. Others might not want to give up chicken and meat altogether but today they have started enjoying meatless options as well. This is because vegetarian options have been observed to play a great role in maintaining good health. Even people who rarely indulge in vegetarian food options have been found to weigh less with lower risks of cardiac disorders and blood pressure as compared to those who love to binge on chicken and meat on daily basis.

But despite this, if you are a non- vegetarian and don’t want yourself to completely give in to vegetarianism then we bring to you few health habits of vegetarians that you can incorporate in your life for a healthy lifestyle.

1)     Veggies and more veggies in meals

While most non vegetarians love to binge on chicken and meat, they hardly give any thought to vegetables. But it is extremely important to include vegetables in your diet because they are packed with dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals. So even if you have made chicken for dinner, start your meal with veggies and then indulge in the lean proteins and good fat. Eating vegetables in your meals can instantly give your body a boost of health.

2)     Pulses are the best friends

Pulses are the most under-rated superfood on this planet. Pulses like beans, chick peas, black eyed peas, lentils aid in weight loss and reduce belly fat. Also, pulses are great in nutrition and hence improve the overall health by lowering the risk of diabetes and heart disease. They are great source of proteins and can be made in various ways

3)     Greens in meals

Eating green vegetables is one of the best ways to get vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and fibres. Healthiest vegetarians include a good amount of green vegetables in their diet. If you are a non-vegetarian and find it difficult to eat green veggies than try to include the green veggies in your morning smoothies or green juice. These smoothies are great for fat loss and give a glowing skin.

4)     Piling plate with fruits and veggies

Ever gone out with a vegetarian on a buffet? They like to pile their plate first with lots of fresh seasonal fruits and veggies and then go for other appetizers. Having a variety of fruits and veggies is important because they are high in vitamin C (citrus fruits, strawberries, green leafy vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower etc.). Also some of the leafy vegetables like spinach are amongst the best sources of potassium which is great for your bones and blood pressure.

5)     Make veggies the centrepiece

Vegetarians like to make vegetables the centrepiece of their plate. Whenever you are out for dinner make sure you add more room on your plate for veggies and in whatever space that is left, you may add chicken or breads. Adding just one additional portion per day of veggies can cut your chances of developing heart disease by 11 percent.
